Drones hit a house and a vehicle near Miranshah bazaar, killing at least 16 people in the bloodiest strike of the year.

Three weeks after the strike, unnamed US officials were at pains to explain how this strike fitted into a new, tighter targeting policy. They said the dead men were Haqqani militants plotting to attack the Ariana Hotel in Kabul.
